About Oraphaned Media On LifeFlix Library

The Problem

Anyone who has imported footage from old tapes knows the feeling: you’re halfway through digitizing a Hi8 or MiniDV clip, and suddenly the system freezes or crashes. You restart the app, expecting to see your media only to find that some or all of the footage seems to have disappeared.

It’s frustrating, stressful, and sometimes those moments are irreplaceable.

To prevent this from ever happening again, LifeFlix Library introduced a feature designed specifically to keep your captured clips from getting lost.

What Orphaned Media Is and Why LifeFlix Created It

The Orphan folder is created at startup if there are files in the Media directory that do not have a corresponding scene stored in the Library. This functionality was added because if a fault happened during the import of a tape, the imported media was being lost (to the user).

When you are importing from a tape, LifeFlix creates a media file and a new scene for each clip, but it does not add the new Album to the Library until the media has successfully finished being ingested.

If there is a fault or crash, then the new Album does not get written. If a fault happens, all of the media would be expected to show up in the Orphan Album, except the final clip that was being ingested when the error occurred.

The Orphaned Media system ensures your imported clips aren’t lost when something goes wrong. Even if an import fails, LifeFlix protects nearly all captured media so you can recover and organize it instead of losing valuable footage.

If you want a safer, more reliable way to preserve your tapes and digital videos, LifeFlix Library has you covered.
